Free Surface Flow under Gravity and Surface Tension due to an Applied Pressure Distribution II Bond number less than one-third

چکیده
We consider steady free surface two-dimensional flow due to a localized applied pressure distribution under the effects of both gravity and surface tension in water of a constant depth, and in the presence of a uniform stream. The fluid is assumed to be inviscid and incompressible, and the flow is irrotational. The behaviour of the forced nonlinear waves is characterized by three parameters: the Froude number, F , the Bond number, τ < 1/3, and the magnitude and sign of the pressure forcing term ǫ. The fully nonlinear wave problem is solved numerically by using a boundary integral method. For small amplitude waves and F < Fm < 1 where Fm is a certain critical value where the phase and group velocities for linearized waves coincide, linear theory gives a good prediction for the numerical solution of the nonlinear problem in the case of a bifurcation from the uniform flow. As F approaches Fm, however, some nonlinear terms need to be taken in the problem. In this case the forced nonlinear Schrödinger equation is found to be an appropriate model to describe bifurcations from an unforced envelope solitary wave. In general, it is found that for given values of F < Fm and τ < 1/3, there exist both elevation and depression waves.

متن کاملLattice Boltzmann Simulation of Deformation and Breakup of a Droplet under Gravity Force Using Interparticle Potential Model
Abstract In this paper interparticle potential model of the lattice Boltzmann method (LBM) is used to simulate deformation and breakup of a falling droplet under gravity force. First this model is applied to ensure that the surface tension effect is properly implemented in this model. Two tests have been considered. First, it has been checked an initial square drop in a 2D domain can freely def...
متن کاملSimulation of Gravity Wave Propagation in Free Surface Flows by an Incompressible SPH Algorithm
This paper presents an incompressible smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH) model to simulate wave propagation in a free surface flow. The Navier-Stokes equations are solved in a Lagrangian framework using a three-step fractional method. In the first step, a temporary velocity field is provided according to the relevant body forces. This velocity field is renewed in the second step to include t...

Steady free-surface flow due to a pressure distribution under both gravity and capillary effects in water of finite depth is considered. Numerical results are found to depend on three parameters: Froude number, F , Bond number, τ∗, and the magnitude...
متن کاملAn Experimental Investigation of Water Effects on Asphaltene Surface Behavior through Interfacial Tension Measurements
As a physiochemical property, asphaltenes are known to be one the most surface active compounds in crude oil. Due to such property, their behavior is most probably influenced by fluid-fluid interactions at the contact surface (interface). Potentially and naturally, in most cases, water is in contact with crude oil and is co-produced with it as well. Considering that asphaltene molecules are pol...
